How an AC SHOULD Be Built As a longtime Friedrich fan, I was very disappointed when they started outsourcing in the mid 2000's so that they could offer several inexpensive China-Made models and "remain competitive" Thankfully, there were still their premium models which were made in the US of MUCH better grade materials. These Models were, on the average, double the price (and weight) of the foreign made units for the same BTU range and IMO, worth EVERY penny. In 6/2007, I moved into in a pre war apartment building with very small windows (20 1/4" width) in the living room, dining room area. I needed a 12,000 BTU unit to adequately cool it. There was only ONE unit that was both 12,000 BTU's and would fit in the window: The Friedrich X-Star XQ12L10A which at the time was $650. The X-Stars were very sturdy, Made in US units that were based on Friedrich's Q-Star chassis with upgrades and electronic improvements (I had owned an 8,000 BTU Q-Star for 9 years as the primary AC for my NYC Studio apartment with ZERO...
